When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you usually set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically as soon as the domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the Internet domain where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that handles the emails for that particular domain name. The website and the email hosting are usually thought to be one thing, when they're in reality two different services. Having independent records for them will permit you to have them with different providers if you'd like. For example, some new provider can have excellent uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the Internet domain to the former and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you could get the best of both providers. These records are checked when you want to open a website or send an email - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed website or your email will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Website Hosting

If you have a Linux cloud website hosting package from our company, you'll be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your domains. So long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify specific records by using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to another service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will allow you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address in any way. If you decide to use the e-mail services of another company and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with simply a couple of mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from us, you'll be able to see and change the A and MX records for every one of the domain addresses or subdomains that you host within the account. The Hepsia Control Panel, which you'll get to handle the account, provides an state-of-the-art, albeit easy-to-use tool in which all hosts are going to be listed in alphabetical order and you're going to be able to edit their records with no more than a couple of clicks. If you have to set up a new record, it'll be equally simple - select the domain/subdomain, type in the IP address or mail server record and you will be all set. You'll also be able to set different priority for the MX records which you create in case you want to use a third-party email provider and they ask you to create additional records other than the 2 default ones. If you experience any problems, we have a comprehensive Help section with videos where you can see first-hand how to setup or edit any record.
